Within adolescents, specific processes and skills are important in pursuing and maintaining prosocial relationships within their lives. Social interaction has just as much
importance as any other area of life. As we are social beings, it is part of what keeps us in good health and happy whilst also expanding our understanding of those around us and potentially learning from them, whether they are positive or negative. Within our social development program, young people will be allowed to develop their skills which can benefit them in their everyday lives. As many of the young people we work with face emotional and mental difficulties, it is known that this can stem from their social behaviour towards others, this then causing negative social outcomes and potentially developing social isolation. Our program encourages young mentees to develop their social confidence and skills such as active listening, non-verbal communication, empathy towards others and respect. This can be accomplished through mentees being given the opportunity to meet new faces and have social contact with others from many different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
